Katarina Niewiedzial has been the Berlin Senate Commissioner for Integration and Migration since May 2019. Between 2014 and 2019, she previously also became intensively acquainted with work at the municipal level. As integration commissioner in the district of Pankow, she developed and established the district integration office, coordinated the integration processes of the many refugees arriving from Syria and Afghanistan, and expanded and revitalised the district landscape of migrant organisations.
After studying Political Science and European Studies in Oldenburg, Limerick and at the FU-Berlin, she was the managing director and project manager of the think tank “The Progressive Centre” in Berlin for 7 years.
She and her family have experienced the challenges and obstacles that have to be overcome when arriving in Germany. At the age of 12, she moved with her family from Poland to Bremerhaven.
