MICHAEL KELLNER (*8 May 1977 in Gera) has been a member of the German Bundestag (Bündnis 90/Die Grünen) since 2021, where he represents the electoral district of Uckermark – Barnim I. In addition, Michael Kellner is Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Economics and Climate Protection. In his role, he is also the Federal Government Commissioner for SMEs and the Federal Government’s contact person for the cultural and creative industries.
Prior to his election to the German Bundestag, Michael Kellner served as Federal Political Director of Bündnis 90/Die Grünen from 2013 to January 2022. During this time, he coordinated the nationwide election campaigns of the Greens in 2017, 2021 and the European election campaigns of the Greens in 2014 and 2019. Previously, he was the office manager of the Green members of parliament Claudia Roth and Frithjof Schmidt, as well as the spokesperson for the federal working group “Peace and International Politics” from the beginning of 2011 to the end of 2013.
In addition to his positions in the Bundestag and the federal government, Michael Kellner is, by virtue of his office, a member of the Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers, the trade union ver.di, and the Heinrich Böll Foundation. He grew up in Gera in Thuringia and studied political science in Potsdam, Canterbury (UK) and East Lansing (USA). He lives with his wife and two children in Berlin and in the Uckermark region.
