Interview with Jeannette Gusko

What does generational diversity mean to you personally – a challenge or an opportunity?
Clear opportunity – mixed teams bring together life experience and zest for life, which can drive companies forward. But diversity is more demanding than homogeneity. For this, a corporate culture must allocate time and provide incentives for empathetic behavior.

What innovative approaches do you see to creatively address demographic change?
Better recognition of qualifications of immigrants. Utilizing the untapped potential, especially of women and mothers, who are still held back by norms, e.g., through job sharing, promotions, and better work-life balance, but also by breaking down prejudices, e.g., regarding menopause. I also find it truly creative to abolish spousal income splitting and link parental allowance to both parents taking it equally.

If you could make an appeal to politics and business: What would be your most important point?

Enable all people to be able to work healthily. With enough time for friendships and sports, with good childcare for 40 hours a week, which does not have to be privately paid. What does resilience mean for your work or your company?Resilience is the emotional balance and mental flexibility to be able to handle any scenario. Resilience cannot be solely a management task; all employees must have incentives to strengthen themselves. Companies are a perfect place to build resilience because employees spend a large part of their time here, often also outside of their own filter bubbles.
